Continental Breakfast?

I was partaking in the famous "Continental Breakfast" at a hotel in Honolulu. It seemed a little thin, basically a muffin and juice. I guess that's pretty good.

Then it hit me, they are not on a continent, and perhaps define their own tiny continent. They are not part of the North American continent (note same root of "continue" of "contiguous").

But Great Britain and Ireland are part of the European Continent. The essence of the matter comes from which land mass you belong to historically. The Hawaiian Islands are relatively new and formed from volcanic action, so they I guess fall into a category as continentally orphaned.
